Hi, Thanks all for the ID. I Google'd a seed pod and it looks identical to the pod I posted in the pic.I don't grow peonies so I would have never been able to identify it without a lot of research. thanks again

Thanks, rhizo. I just got back on to see if someone had taken the time. Plenty of photos provided, and this person, having chickens nearby really needs an answer and is likely worried about the situation. I know it would be a piece of cake to some of these tree nerds who can identify even esoteric weird stuff.

Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) looks like by the seed pods. Those are seed pods and if it had seeds, it did flower and they are pretty. The tree pic is not bright enough for me to identify by the leaves, so a leaf pic is usually helpful. Mine (and they volunteer easily and we have to weed them out) have been blooming for months now. Nicest year ever for them and we train some into standards......single trunk small trees. Others we let run into hedgerows. I have half-double whites in full bloom now but I am a cooler zone than you.

Interesting flora - what I find online says zone 5-9 and none of the range maps I have found indicate it resides in Canada. Range is up to New York and Pennsylvania, though. It sure would not be a surprise to find it in Canada. Canadianplant, are you near the border around NY/Pennsylvania? John ps - and bboy is right about e. alatus being so invasive so that is, IMO, the most likely by default. A close up of twigs and foliage arrangement as well as bark might help the the more knowledgeable on here (like the two above that already responded) attain a positive ID
