I will be very interested to hear what others have to say regarding your coverlet. I have one very similar that my mother bought at an estate sale. It has the same scalloped edge and shape cut out for four poster beds. I always considered it a matelassé coverlet, but did not ever think of it as being from the 1800's. I use it on my dear departed Grandmother's full size bed.

Well I thought about what bird gardener said, and making another smaller mushroom just wasn't going to happen, too labor intensive. Then I remembered I had bought supplies 2 Christmasses ago to make gnomes who would have little german spun cotton mushrooms with them. I dug them out and they are the exact same red that I painted mine. So here is my first completed ornament. I have 22 red and white homemade and 2 doz of the little ones! I have 12 or 13 not yet completely painted AND I discovered what i had forgotten: a doz PINK little spun cotton mushrooms. They are not the right color pink to go with the 12 roses mushrooms, but I think I have the right color pink that I can make the unpainted ones. My friend Linda had this old wreath that looks like grass which I will use for the red and white at least. Back to $7. I have so much to do today. Kathy

I'm with Sunny...I too save them! Kathy...I saw an idea once that I tucked away where someone used a scarf of their mothers as a background for a shadow box. In the box they put a small picture of their mother and other small items of hers they had kept. You could do one and put things (if you have them) from your childhood or pictures, etc.

Just wanted to follow up that we finally decided on a set of bedspreads and shams from LL Bean. I didn't think the color would look good with our eggplant colored curtains, but the exact color is in a wall hanging we have in there so ties it together. Just need to get something decorative to hang on the wall above the beds. (Since they are adjustable, we don't really need headboards.) This is the twin size. We both think this looks all right without putting a skirt underneath. I just wanted the legs to be hidden which these spreads do.
