Shamel Ash Leaves - Sparkl-y Stuff
Comments (5)Ash trees are prone to have Wooly Ash Aphids this time of year which sip the fluid from the cells of new leaves leaving them curled or crinkly. In the process they excrete 'honeydew' which is a sticky, shiny, sugary substance which can fall on leaves, sidewalks and lawn furniture. A strong blast from the hose can dislodge them if the tree isn't too big. Here is a link that might be useful: Wooly ash aphid...See MoreDancing Queen...she sparkles!
Comments (4)A lot of our hippies have a crystalline texture and they certainly can sparkle in the sun (or when flash from the camera hits them just right!).This is actually caused by there being a transparent layer of cells over the color pigment layer. Sunlight refracts off this clear or transparent layer of cells giving the "sparkle". With Daylilies we call this effect "Diamond Dust' and in the case of reds and other dark colors it is oft referred to as "Ruby Dust" because it has a red shimmer to it. It shows nicely on this image of 'Little Star': And it really makes this tiny Amaryllis stand out!...See Morestill no sign of tomatoes one month after flower buds appeared...
Comments (7)Thanks all. Unless the seeds were wrong in the packet I got then 'yes', these are tomatoes....yellow pear to be exact. I only have one plant. Maybe I am confused on bud vs blossom. Here's what I saw: dangling in a downward direction and growing off some of the stems were tiny little trumpet shaped yellow flowers.really tiny. But I was able to see small little yellow flowers inside the green outer leaves. After about two weeks the little yellow flowers seemed closed up. They are still there, but I guess are essentially dead..the flowers seem closed now anytime I check them, they havent grown at all, and otherwise I have seen no change. So.is this plant beyond hope.its likely never going to produce tomatoes? Tx....See MoreFlower appears inconsistent
Comments (3)They all look like "normal" fabiola blooms, like mine. The more blooms on a stalk, the longer it take for them to fully open, like the single open flower, alone on a short stalk. Mayve someone els will know whether echeveria have male vs.female flowers, but I don't think so....See MoreIanW Zone 5 Ont. Can.
