Silver Queen and Silver King corn questions
Comments (12)Cool, thanks for the $0.02 farmerdill! I grew some Silver Queen in my nursery (I work for a seed company, but I'm not a corn breeder) and it did well. The biggest issue we had in the Texas Panhandle this year was heat during pollination and the corn in my garden was questionable for a while. The silks didn't emerge until the tassels were almost done shedding pollen. So an earlier hybrid would also help to beat the heat....See MoreWhat's wrong with my euonymus standard?
Comments (4)It may well have been the ants that made the grafted portion separate from the trunk. Well regarding the other plant. All it needs is a good pruning to bring it to shape. Topiaries have to be maintained with good pruning to keep them in a rounded shape. Each time the branches are cut, the plant produces more leaves. Right now it's putting all it's energies towards all the overending branches. Take this picture of yours, print it, with a marker draw a circle 1/3 from the bottom of the crown. Prune all branches that fall outside of the circle. I would suggest you do the same with the boxwoods below. These plants benefit from a good pruning. But in this heat, water well an hour before pruning....See MoreSilver King Artemesia.....?
Comments (8)I don't know it except by photos and descriptions. From those I got the impression that this artemisia has spear-shaped leaves, or at most a few zigs and zags along the leaf's margin, but certainly not fringed or deeply lobed like say 'Valerie Finnis' (if you know that artemisia). The Silver King labeled plants I got from a mail order company yesterday look like 'V. Finnis' with the deeply lobed or fringed leaves. Does this variety change its leaf shape from what it has when young to a more mature shape later? I can send you a photo of my plants if that wouldl help. I want to know if the mail order company knows what 'Silver King' really is!...See Morewhat is this on my orchin (or what happened)
Comments (6)There is no way that antifreeze got on this orchid, but yes, green, like anti freeze.... It has been in that pot for months and in the exact same pleace without any issues, then overnight - I get this... It's the only one with this issue and I have 4 plants right next to it with no issues... Regarding the frost... it's been in the 80's down here in south florida, so I don't think that's what happened... I am totally stumped... I also didn't realize that I posted this on the gallery forum...Should I try over in the regular form to see if anyone else has seen this? Thanks! K...See More- 15 years ago
