Just got back from a swing through the real heart of Texas, and must say, GO!!! If you can!

ARE was looking better than I have seen it (just due to the time of year I have visited recently). Many roses in full bloom. I had planned to buy G. Nabonnand (and did!) and asked about it, the sweet gal helping me took me to see it, in full and glorious bloom!! what a beauty.

SDLM was glorious as well. MANY MANY MANY others, and the bluebonnets along the drive were great too.

I bought GN, Borderer, Hermosa, and F. J. Lindheimer. And many 4inch perennials. at $1.75 (and they were bursting out of their pots) I thought that was pretty good!

I'll post pics, not many as my phone is FULL!! darn!! bad timing!

Thoroughly enjoyed it, the gardens were full of poppies and other companions. The kitchen garden gave me some ideas, Just a really super place to see and SUPPORT!!!

It sounds wonderful and I hope you can at least share some pictures with us. I hope you captured G. Nabonnand on film, a rose so many people rave about.

This is my 1st time ordering from Antique Rose Emporium. I heard from a friend in Texas that ARE's gallon size is huge, and she's right. The weight of ARE's one plant is equivalent to 4 plants from Roses Unlimited !! The weight of the root ball is worth the shipping cost of $14 per one rose. The stem of Prairieville Prince is much bigger than a pencil, indicating a woody & chunky root which has a better chance of winter-survival in my zone 5a. I also like ARE's excellent instructions of NO FERTILIZING for the first month, plus winter-protection is needed if the temp. is below 28 F. I lost a few established roses this past mid-April when the temp dipped to 20 F, and these roses have 3 gallon root-ball and big stems. Below is Prairieville Prince gallon size for $23, with a bud, received from ARE this May 12. The green jug contains 4.5 lb. of fertilizer, and the weight of ARE's gallon is many times heavier than the green jug. Note the thickness of the stem which is vital for my zone 5a winter survival.

It is like showing me two dresses and ask me which I like ? I like both and since I can't pick one most likely I will get both. Look at both the roses.. different styles, different cut ( bloom) , different colour and most likely different scent. SoFl, I feel as if I am getting into the same boat. I have room but it is matter of time that I will door be out of space. My husband is already asking me. 40 is not enough..Geezs, Jin. I want French roses, possibly a few Islanders, Antique ( mostly ) and also DA ( mostly ). Any perfumes made of roses like Nahema is on my want list. Then , I want big blooms which are big roses. I have a long , long lists lastly climbing roses which I also have a list. Trying to cut half my list by is not working :( Cori Ann, you are killing me too....your roses are beautiful. He is indeed a very nice man. Unfortunately my only conversation with him was to reluctantly tell him that the rose being sold at ARE as La France was not La France, and instead most probably Mme. Leon Pain. He asked me a few questions, probably to ascertain that I really knew what I was talking about, and was not just a nut case who was wasting his time. Since then I've become very fond of Mme. Leon Pain, but have also acquired the real La France from another nursery.

Michluvroses, I am late to this discussion, but my favorite fragrant, repeating, climbing rose is Cl. Clotilde Soupert. This is a very old pic of it. I grew this one from a cutting. It was climbing over a garden shed. Now, I love exuberance! It might seem unwieldy to some people, but my favorite roses are ones that grow with total abandon. ;)

I want to see it. I think it's in the same town as the Blue Bell creamery, and that might be fun to see too. We lived in TX for 12 years and I loved the bluebonnets and other wildflowers.

I love A.R.E. and make a trip there a couple of times each year, usually in the spring and in the fall. I also encourage anyone who loves roses and/or cottage gardening to go there. Our trip usually includes a stop at the Blue Bell creamery in Brenham, a drive to the Antique Rose Emporium, and lunch at the Southern Flyer Diner (at Brenham municipal airport) which is just a mile or so off the road that goes to A.R.E. It is always a delightful trip. This is one of the photos from a trip there.

Oh, I've got to get up there soon! Aren't the bluebonnets wonderful? I love to drive that part of the state this time of year.

Jardin, they used to have Mme Antoine Mari planted right in front of the house on the right, and they were as tall as the eaves, if you can believe that. That's one reason I got them for the bed along my porch.

We've been fortunate enough to visit ARE several times, and hope we'll be able to go again.

One of the best visits we paid there was the year we spoke at their big event in the Fall. We were in our motorhome, and we parked out in their back 40 -- so we had the terrific experience of being able to walk through the gardens by moonlight.

It's a great place. :-)

I live fairly close and we plan to go next week. I love going when the bluebonnets are in full bloom, it is truly a sight to behold - I linger all day! I meet a friend from Houston and we bring a picnic lunch and sit at the tables and catch the breeze. I usually go before Easter, but we had freezing weather up until today. This is a place any lover of nature should visit at least once. I go at least twice a year and that is not enough. Fabulous place!!!

My husband and I usually try to make our annual sojourn to ARE around the Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival. Making the loop from where we live, stopping at Jewett Trades days(lots of reasonable plants from local nursery's), and making a large loop to take in all the blooming bluebonnets and Indian paintbrushes. Parts of this trip are breathtaking! April 14-16th this year I think.

That 3rd photo posted is the photo I posted of Louise Odier on another thread. It doesn't resemble the other 2 G.Nabonnand.

It is an identical picture. I still have it on my iPhone!

One of my dreams is to visit that garden. Thank you for the pictures. Everyone I ever met from Texas has always been so very nice.
