OK to pot up new arrivals?

I have already received 2 orders of roses, 9 in all, from 2 sources. Edmunds and J&P. Both were sent way too early for this area and this particular winter. We are below freezing every night. I have both orders sitting in an unheated laundry room and they should be OK there for the time being. The immediate problem is that I spent part of this week in the hospital after experiencing chest pains. I'm still under evaluation and don't feel I will be able to dig holes to plant these roses anytime soon. However, I don't think it would hurt me to fill pots and pot these roses up before they dry out. Sure don't want to lose them! Would this be an acceptable solution or does anyone have a better idea? Any input would be appreciated! Ida
