Tree? Shrub? Veggie? Please?

Hello,

I've run my fingers almost raw searching on the internet for info on this plant and specifically searching for this leaf.

No luck.

I'm hoping you all can help me with identifying this plant/tree/veggie?

I made a purchase through Craigs List....someone was moving out of state and selling all their patio plants.

We went to see the plants in person and I ended up purchasing a Nandina in a nice pottery container and a few other little plants.

While refreshing the Nandina I noticed a thin stick, thinner than a pencil with a single light green leaf sticking out of the soil in the Nandina pot, about 3 inches tall.

I scooped out the 'stick' and put it in a small clay pot and didn't give it much thought other than it getting misted when I turned on my misters for my tropicals.

A couple weeks later I noticed 4 teensy tiny new leaves.

A couple days after that, most of the new leaves looked as though they had burned.

I moved the stick to a dappled sun area and here it is a month later.

The stick is now much thicker, the leaves are growing and for the most part the plant looks healthy.

BUT....I have no idea what I'm tending to.

Could someone please give me some direction so that I can give this plant the correct care?

Thank you!

(Please ignore the coffee container....my hubby is soaking his hickory chips.)
