Window sill/shop light comparison

I thought this might be helpful for people who are just starting seeds for the first time and think they can just use a window sill, or think that they need expensive grow lights.

These Alyssum were started on March 15th,3 1/2 weeks ago. The ones on the left were suffering from some damp-off, so I sprinkled them with cinnamon (the brown dust you see) and banished them to the window sill. The cinnamon seemed to stop the damp-off from spreading, but then I forgot about them. The ones on the right have been under cheap 10.00 shop lights. They are blooming!

I dont know why the seed packet said to start them 10-12 weeks before last frost when they are blooming within a month. Now I have to baby them for another month or so. But the point is - Cheap light work great.
