Opening them side by side, it looks okay. But that means nothing because computers really distort these things. Here's my call on it... either 1.) you're willing to repaint if necessary, so go ahead and order it, or 2.) you're not willing to repaint, so don't order it unless a.)money isn't important to you or b.) you already know where else in the house you'll use it if not there, or c.) you know your sister/mother/best friend would honestly love something for Christmas/birthday/Chanakah/whatever that you could make her out of that fabric. To answer your question, yes you can do a valance above the sink and a shade on the door and it will not be too much. Your kitchen/colors otherwise look very clean and uncluttered, and this or any other print you like can work there. But if you're worried about it, or if there isn't enuf fabric left, consider doing the shade/valance in an off white and trimming them with a heavy band of whatever print you like. Frankly, your kitchen has so darned much charm it's going to look good almost no matter what you do at this point as you've done so well up till now -- besides you have great taste. How ya like dem apples?

shee, it's difficult to say what color the fabric is looking at it from the monitor, but I would say more gold than yellow. For my shower curtain, since it is just one piece, I'm going to get the seamstress to put the holes so I can hang it from plain hooks and I'll have the liner on the same hooks and when the curtain is in use the decorative part will set outside the tub. The rod pocket is for just the valance which will be on a seperate poll. Also, my seamstreass was suppose to do this but she didn't. There is a waterproof fabric that you can use as the liner for your curtain which will offer it more protection from water and if I remember correctly it's also mildew proof. You asked about the height to hang. My curtain is a basic size so it will hang like your current one is now, just above the top of the tub surround.

I love the drapes you have! I think the problem is the wall color. The soft gold in your great room would work well with both your drapes and the fireplace tile. Or maybe a warm, soft terra rosa, glazed or color-washed? But personally I like the gold. Ivory or a paler version of the gold would also work. Do some big sample boards - just some old cardboard will do - but at least 2'x4' or 3'x3'. Your windows read very high-set - that stands out as not being the usual placement - you can experiment with the height the drapes are mounted and see if a different proportion pleases you better - maybe a little higher, even almost to the ceiling. The drapes are puddling, and maybe they have a hem that could be let out - they could go higher. Or sew on a contrasting band of terracotta on the bottom. (or whatever color the inner curtains are - hard to tell in pictures sometimes.) The bit of wall between the window and the crown molding is so narrow that it might be better not to treat it as the wall but as panelling, like over the mantel. All you would have to do is frame it with short vertical pieces of flat molding over the window casing verticals, just glue it on. Paint the molding to match your trim and either do the recesses the same or to match your over-mantel recesses. A bigger rug out to six inches of the walls. Something easy to clean and with a pattern - you have children eating there. My youngest is nine, we still have spills. Low pile, no loops, not fuzzy. Something to occupy the walls will make the room feel cozier - a long window seat with a bench cushion and pillows, and cabinets underneath. Do you ever have many people to a sit-down dinner - an L-shaped banquette would give you lots of seating. Kids could play there, do their homework, look out the window, keep you company as you worked in the kitchen - put away homework and toys in the cabinets - presto clean. Also your linens and servingware not used every day. Accessories with more weight and color, more dimensionality than the plates on the wall and the pictures and things over the hearth. It really is a good dining room, good bones, good molding, good view, good fireplace, good flooring, spacious. It won't be hard to love. The fireplace is your starting point because you can't change the tiles. Then either wall color, rug, or rug, wall color, working with the tiles. THEN drapes and upholstery. Then accessories. Paint is your cheapest element. Even if you hire someone to paint, you can buy the cans and do big sample boards yourself or directly on the wall. You don't like the color? Worst that happens is you're out the cost of the sample can. So it's worth experimenting, because it will set the mood of the room.

Both. I have a clear vinyl curtain inside with a fabric curtain outside. I always buy the vinyl curtains that have the metal grommets...the plastic ones are ripped in no time flat otherwise. I do wash the vinyl one often...I put the old rag bath towels that we use for cleaning in the middle of the curtain (the gunky side) wash on warm and add bleach. The towels rubbing against the vinyl wash it right off. Of course after so many washes you can see its time to replace, but I don't have to replace the vinyl ones as often. My GF leaves the shower rings right on hers when she washes it. I have sometimes but I don't know if that would work without a front load machine..might get ripped on the center agitator in a top loader.
