First year blooms, but this picture was taken second year and so the salvias bloomed in May - I think I remember waiting (impatiently) for the Salvias to bloom the first year but they finally did - maybe more towards end June (?) (I can't remember). But the second year, they bloomed in May ( picture was from the second year). I don't know how well they survive LI - but here they came back, even when we had teens over the winter. As a matter of fact, they were green all winter. I am a former New Yorker and I think they will be fine - maybe protect a bit if it really gets cold. I love the Victoria Salvias. I didn't get any this year, probably because I disturbed the reseeders in freshening up the bed (and I couldn't tell the difference between those seedlings and the Lavendar Hyssop). I still have seeds left from last year, though. I'll be WSing them for 2007-2008. Also Salvia hormonium (I know I slaughtered that "h" word....forgive me) Linda

I don't think it's ever too late to start salvia coccinea. Mine reseed all year long and there are always new little plants popping up here and there, close to the parent. I've never grown salvia farinacea from seed, so can't help you with that one. Good luck! Marcia

I live in Seattle and I have a hot lips salvia in my yard. It's a perennial and the best time to plant perennials is actually when the rain starts. Saves on the water. I also start taking cuttings at this time of the year from my plant. Good luck, Tita
