Heirloom veggies vs. hybrids...

I asked this question in my last post but the subject was "the baggie method." I wanted to post the same question with a more specific topic because I am really curious about this.

I started grape tomatoes, 4th of July tomatoes and an heirloom tomato with the baggie method (coffee filters) four days ago. The first two (hybrids) were quite successful. Seven out of nine seeds germinated within four days. The heirloom, in the same amount of time, only germinated two out of nine.

Did I somehow mess up the heirlooms or in your experience, does it generally take longer?

Any input/thoughts are welcome!!!
