I guess the question I have is the area full sun or part shade to full shade? A picture would be great. It would be great to see the movement in the water to know what to advise. I have Joe Pye Weed in my top pond that a waterfalls dumps into that has lots of movement. I also have turtlehead, water lettuce and hyacinths on the very edge where there is not splashing from the water fall. Oh parrotfeather is not picky at all for that type of environment. I almost forgot I have some tropical elephant ears planted up there as well.

Just about any garden plant that likes "moist soil" will grow in water. I don't use soil in my ponds, but "plant" them bareroot with sand or peagravel to hold them down.
Daylilies and Hostas do well for me in the water.

Mandi, check out the thread below. And as Lil mentioned, any terrestrial plant that needs regular or more water can be tried in the pond....if you make sure to report back to us with your extraordinary results. :D

Texas Star Hibiscus. I'm going to try it in a few weeks. Right now I'm soaking it in a tub so it will replace soil roots with water roots before I put it in the pond.PJ

I was just thinking.Some house plants can be grown in water(soiless is the only way it worked for me). I don't know if they'd be toxic to fish. It would be an interesting set up for a small container in deep shade. I've done it with Pothos,a potatoe,avocado seed, and spider plant. PJ

Impatients grow well with wet feet. I have mine in a floating planter in the pond.

Here's what I have, all bare roots: Mint (2 types), morning glory, some ivy, impatiens, a marigold, a small yellow daisy type flower that came in a basket arrangement, another yellow flower just added some wondering jew. Tried a geranium(water may ahve been too hight over crown)didn't make it. I had a few others that died, again, not sure, but the water may also been too high over the crown and/or too much root damage prior to planting.

Also a good "rule of thumb" is to remove about 1/3 of the foliage when transplanting to compensate for root stress/damage.

Also interested in knowing what other plants have been successfull in ponds, especially, bare roots.
