I would love to come and see you..but right now I can barely walk, much less dig up roses....maybe someone can get some cuttings for me?? If my foot is better, maybe I can make the trip...when are you thinking? I am the first to respond?

Carrie - I am actually in Denver now - and probably will be here for a long time. Looking for a house and everything - I have a few roses that can withstand zone 5 winters so they probably won't be up for grabs. And I am not sure what condition anything is in right now - almost ex husband (all I have to do is sign the papers that came in to the office on Friday and mail them back) is still in the house just because I don't want the house to be empty. The roses are totally on their own and I would like to think they are going somewhere that they would get a little loving care. I am going to dig a bunch for Stephen S to take to the ARS gardens in Shreveport and to the Heritage Rose Foundation Garden North of Dallas but most of them need homes.

I sure wish I lived closer-----I would love to adopt some of your roses.

I would love cuttings of your wonderful teas, noisettes, and chinas... anything I don't already have, I want! I am happy to pay for mailing costs, naturally! We all will make sure that Rozanna's Legacy in Texas will continue. And of course, you'll have starts ready for you should you ever want to move back!

I cannot attend a dirt day, but wish you well in your new ventures. There is an interesting booklet by John Starnes called 'The Old Roses of Fairmount Cemetery'--about old roses found in two cemestery sites in Denver and their conservation. You might enjoy it.

I haven't made it back to Texas yet. Granddaughter is due any day so the plan right now is for me to leave for Texas around the 9th of June - I have things to do there other than dig roses but I stil want people to come and dig them up - no idea what condition anything is in but everyone plan some time around then to come and dig

I know time is an issue for most people but anytime between the 11th & 16th of June. I will be driving back to Denver probably early on the morning of the 17th - sunday. Friday or Sat would be best but if you can't come then - anytime is great. Send me an e-mail and I will give you my phone number

Rozanna, Johnny and I start our vacation on the 15th, but we are heading down to Port Aransas to go fishing for a week. We are going in the Wrong Direction!!!

Well, if anyone is able to go and can take some cuttings for me, I would love your Kern's White (hybrid perpetual, I think?) and Madame Bravy, if either are surviving. This time of year, mailing cuttings is dicey, I know, so I am happy to either pay for overnight shipping, or if anyone wants to start them for me, perhaps I can drive up to get them on another weekend.

Rozanna, and all my north Texas friends, I would like to have a little rosey party here this fall, (the garden is finally getting to be grown up enough to have something to show), and I am wondering if there's a chance you would come down in October and join us?

But my roses are really making me mad right now and I don't think I want to devote any more time on them, much less get any new ones. Mine will be lucky to get water this summer, much less fertilizer or spray. They are officially "grounded".
Also, I've been looking at the space I've got left in the 2nd rose garden and there isn't even room for the roses in the pot ghetto. And I am NOT going to make a 3rd rose garden! Not as long as there is such a thing as beetles or blackspot or drought in Texas.
But maybe I'll feel differently by June. Keep us posted on the dates.

first things to go are the pot ghetto inhabitantsd that my non gardening sister has been tending for almost a year - import roses are there and they are out of quaranteen. Don't ask what is there - I don't remember and then some whole beds are going for those who dare to dig. Plus cut everything down as low as you want for cuttings.

The main problem is the beetles. They arrived last year and I was hoping it was a one time thing but they are back again. Not JBs, though there are a few of JBs out there and I can only imagine what the future is going to be like once the JB population gets established. These are a different kind of beetle, but very destructive to rose blooms. I'm not going to spray any kind of insecticide because of the bee problems. I've definately noticed about a hundred fold less bees this year than usual and I would hate to kill the 1 or 2 that are out there in my yard.
A 2nd problem is water. I have a well and there isn't enough water in there for all of these roses. The last 2 years my well has gone dry for long periods. I've just put in a 2nd rose garden so that means more water that I need and it just isn't there.
A 3rd problem is that since my sinus surgery in December my sense of smell comes and goes. And what good are roses if you can't smell them? Might as well have a salvia garden or something that requires less care and less water.
I do have the Marie Legonde cuttings you sent me under the misting system and she's still green so far. If this one roots it will have a place in my garden, don't worry about that!
But I've got around 140 roses in the ground and 30 or more in pots waiting for fall. And with all of these problems I just don't know if I want to get any more roses. This coming summer I'm going to make a list of which roses get to stay and which ones get the boot and I'm going to be vicious.

Rozanna, I will see if Starlet can come in my stead, and help with the digging! I am glad you will be getting so many of your rare roses out to the HRF and such places... we need to keep that going. You have amassed a wonderful collection down here that we must not waste!!!
