String Algae - Newbie

Hello. I've got some pretty basic questions. I know this sort of question is asked over and over, but I think mine is a little different than others who have posted.

I know nothing about ponds. My dad was diagnosed with cancer a couple weeks ago, so while getting treated, I've been (and will be) helping to keep his ponds in order. He has two. His smaller one tends to have problems with string algae. It clogs up his filter to the point that he has to take it out and clean it about once every 2 weeks. I'd like to fight it as naturally as possible to keep from killing his Koi fish. I was looking at three options: barley pellets, ramshorn snails, and the Koi Clay. Would one of these options work better than another? How about a combo of a couple of them? I'd like to get some feedback as to what might be the best option. Thanks for your help!

Brandon
