Many roses look like this one: I was thinking it might be "Troika" , or "Victor Borge" or "Flora Danica" or even "Chicago peace" ... try checking these out on HMF.

Looking at Jungs website it appears that the only two roses they offer with that color and bloom form (from their photo's) are Voodoo and Mardi Gras. One is a Floribunda and one is an HT.

Well, I can tell you what it's NOT. It's definitely not VICTOR BORGE, CHICAGO PEACE, TROIKA or FLORA DANICA. It's going to be a domestic rose, not an import, unless it's one that's been around for a long time. If it was from Jung's it will be something that's readily available in the USA. Not having ever seen ARIZONA or SUNDOWNER in person, I'm guessing it could be one of those. Altho, I have an unknown rose myself that I think might be ARIZONA, but it doesn't look like your rose. If there's no scent, then it's not VOODOO. VOODOO has a fairly strong scent and grows very upright, tall and has tons of thorns; and really your rose doesn't look like it anyway. It has too many petals. It almost looks like it could be FOLKLORE, but I'm not sure. FOLKLORE does have the yellow reverse like your rose shows in some of the pics, but I think it has fewer petals than your rose too.

Looking at the pics at HMF, I'd say it looks closest to SUNDOWNER, yet it doesn't have as much yellow on the reverse as yours does. I dunno? It's very pretty, whatever it is!

It can be Joyfulness. At least my J. often looks like your pictures.

Hi mendocino: It kind of looks like Voodoo. Your's looks like it has a lot more petals. My Voodoo starts out with a very hybrid tea shape.
Voodoo also has a really nice fragrance. Mine also shows more of a cream reverse than yours. Your rose shows a lot more yellow too.
Beth is right on too when she says Voodoo is a very upright grower with a lot of thorns.
It's very pretty whatever it is!

Interesting info about Voodoo: It is very healthy here where BS is a nightmare. The breeder nicknamed it 'Mr Clean' while it was in the test fields.
Voodoo is also in the heritage of Julia Child.

Not Voodoo. I looked back at my old Voodoo photos. Voodoo has less petals, not as dense in the center, not nearly as orange. I love your rose.

It is possible that this rose is Arizona. The last one does look like it. Sorry I don't have any pictures of my Arizona as it's looking doomed for the compost bin. The blooms are the right color, but my bush they aren't this nice.

I have two Folklores and they are a different shape and in my PNW garden, not as full. This rose is VERY vigorous and will grow to 6 feet easily. What about Christopher Columbus, Tocade or New Year? I hope you get a name for your rose as I love that colour and shape and there really aren't that many bred.

I have considered each & every suggestion and have gone through all my stacks of rose books and researched HMF but for one reason or another I can't say for sure any of these are it. The biggest problem is that even though the coloration is on target, the total lack of fragrance to my rose rules out most of the suggestions. I know for sure it has zero fragrance because it is planted out by the road and people walking by are always drawn to its bright
colors and insist on sniffing it, only to be disappointed that so beautiful a rose has no scent whatsoever. Also, all the roses mentioned seem to have a looser form than mine, with fewer petals. The petals on mine are so tightly packed that the blooms never fall apart, even after a week or longer on the bush and they never open to expose their stamens. Wind & rain do nothing to them except cause the heavy blooms to hang on the stems at times. I thought it might be Maria Stern at first, but every report of it mentions its strong fragrance and this one...zilch. I wish I had kept last year's Jung's catalog because a clue might be whatever roses they were selling....but not necessarily. Not to bad-mouth them, but out of 8 roses ordered, only 2 were the actual roses I wanted, and one of them I was able to identify here from everyone's help as Pink Peace and it wasn't even offered in their catalog. Hmmmm.....

I guess the biggest reason I would like a name for my "stranger" is that I make up wooden markers to identify all my 300 roses for the benefit of others (I myself don't need them). People always ask what its name is since the marker is conspicously absent. I'm not ruling out any of your great suggestions, I'm just not making up a new sign marker just yet! Many thanks to all.

I hate to bring up the obvious, but have you tried contacting Jung's? I've ordered from them all my life (mostly because my Grandfather, a truck farmer, ordered from them.) Their customer service has always been very helpful.

Another point that hasn't been brought up is that this rose may not appear in any of their catalogs, no matter what year.
I'm making a guess here, but I would think they buy their roses at least in part from another supplier. The climate here in Wisconsin isn't ideal for some of the roses they sell!
The mistake may have occurred at the supplier level.
The biggest US producer of roses is Tyler, Texas. The climate there is just better for roses!
Just some thoughts that might help your search. If you do find out, please post the results. I'd like to own that rose!

Linda is correct. Jungs is just a retail seller of plants. They have no control over what or where the roses are. The growers dig and store and pack the roses, then they go out to the various wholesale suppliers, who then sell them to the retailers. There are thousands of roses grown in those fields, and mistakes can happen anywhere along the line. Most likely that rose isn't even one that Jungs lists or might not even be from the wholesaler they bought them from. Unfotunately, you may never find out what this rose is.

I agree with you Celeste. Your rose has waaaaay too many petals and the form is not really consistant with many of the roses offered up for suggestions. One thing I see on this rose is a yellow reverse, which doesn't show up on all photos. It should be a clue in discovering more possibilites, but maybe not. And don't forget.... a rose may look totally different in one person's yard and climate, than it does in somone else's. Climate, soil condition, fertilizers all can contribute to a slight variation, including scent or lack thereof. I have many roses that are supposed to have strong scents, but I often find little or none.

Are you sure it is not Mardi Gras floribunda? I have just ordered it from Chamblees, and it looks like it to me. Then I went to Help Me Find, and it looks like their floribunda. The hybrid tea is red.

Mardi Gras source is Singing in the rain and Love's Spring. It may look somewhat like Love's Spring.

The annoying thing is that the same rose can change from area to area, temps, etc.

I looked at Lafter on Chamblees, and it was so so. I looked at it on another site, and it was a totally different color.

I hope you let us know what it is when you find it. I want it. If not, maybe you could learn how to propagate, and sell it. (I'm kidding. I cannot propagate, and it would probably be against the law.)

Ya know, looking at HMF, I think it would be a pretty good bet that this is ARIZONA. Really take a look at all those pics. Many of them show a yellowish reverse, some old-fashioned looking quartered centers, the redder edges with some scalloping, and overall the same colors for the most part. I think my unknown rose that many people told me last yr was ARIZONA is in fact something else. Your rose looks waaay too close to these pics.

Beth, I would say you have nailed it, not just for the colouring as obviously this is one of many colours, but because of the fullness and form of the bloom, also the colouring DOES have something to do with it. :Smile!

HMF lists Arizona as having a sweet fragrance. Is that the fragrance you have on this rose.

Well, certainly some of the photos of Arizona on HMF look like mine, but there seems to be a huge variation in the bloom coloration and form on there. Whereas mine is more a deep orange and tightly-petalled, some of the photos show blooms more of the yellow coloring, and some with red to the edges. I wish I could see a bloom of Arizona in person! Because of the inconsistency of the photos I'd have to say its a strong contender, but I still am puzzled about the lack of fragrance of mine.
Arizona is reported to be fragrant....mine definitely is not. Since I know detecting fragrance differs from person to person I would not base this on just my opinion alone.
Dozens of people took sniffs of my rose all throughout the summer at different times and no one detected any scent whatsoever. Roses right next to it did have fragrance, so I don't think its the soil or the climate that caused the lack of scent. It just isn't fragrant at all....

I am under the impression that Jung's does get all their
roses from Edmund's....they don't grow any themselves. Therefore, they couldn't help me with the identity.

I'm usually on the cooking forum but just stopped by for a minute and saw your rose. I don't know roses really but over on the CF, Sharon(Canarybird) has a rose that looks some what like your's. Go take a look, it's on the what for dinner #262. The date is 1/28. There's a couple of her posts so look at the date. Probably not the same but worth a look. It's called a Granada. If it's not the same maybe Sharon would know what you have.

Arizona is one of my favorite roses, but I think your beauty has way too many petals. And mine did have a nice scent though it is not outstanding. I have trouble smelling many lemony scented roses, but this one comes through...as I remember it, much like Joseph's Coat's scent. Also, my Arizona wanted to grow really tall. It was maintained at about 6' tall in my previous garden. Leaves were often diseased but the flowers were fabulous.

What ever yours is it is extremely pretty!

Looks like Arizona....the petal count is good, the color is good, the foliage looks right, and the prickle shape and distribution looks good.....and nobody could ever get a scent from my Arizona either.

I agree with NewJersey Rose. My Arizona is an almost duplicate of the last picture shown. It has a yellow reverse and a nicely colored orange. The foliage is correct too, but I'm not as pleased with the plant as I could be. I'll keep it another year or two since I bought the poor thing at Walmart as a $2 special and it usually takes several years for those to come back for me.

As far as scent...I guess you need the right nose for that. Mine doesn't appear to have any fragrance either.
