Teaching info on pond plants and critters?

I help organize a local garden tour in the midwest. This year we have 2 ponds, one large, one small on the tour. We'd like to give people a handout on WHERE to find the best information on pond plants and maintaining pond fish / turtles / frogs, etc; where to find them (i.e. is it ok to snag them out of rural streams and ponds?)

The pond owners will give some info about what they do, but I wondered if any of you have suggestions for books or online resources that aren't just out to sell their own stuff? I want to encourage people to really learn about what they may be getting into before they dig that hole, lay down plastic, fill it with water and dump in a few fish.

I've googled pond plants, pond fish, garden ponds, etc and honestly I think Garden web is one of the greatest resources anywhere!

Thanks for any comments.
