I think its a treefrog, although I'm not sure exactly what kind. There are very loud! I usually love to sleep with my bedroom windows open and listen to the various frogs, but this year, I've had to close my windows a couple of times, 'cause they are soooooooo loud!
What's interesting about my treefrogs is that they start singing when I begin to water things. I can't figure out if its the sound, smell, or what of the water that gets them started. I just love them!

We have Gray Tree frogs up here in Ohio. The other day one had crawled up onto a piece of still exposed dirty liner after a light rain. He was SO sure his coloration matched, he actually let my wife touch him and didn't even move! It was amazing how well he matched the liner, and even had a couple of edges that looked like moss growing on him, but it was just a blending technique. Very cool! I guess that is why "versicolor" is part of their scientific name.

I have seen so many really neat sites that I would never have witnessed if I hadn't built my pond! I am very thankful the I have been able to do it!

Looks like a Green Treefrog, Hyla cinerea. It's one of the more common treefrogs in Florida. They are longer and more slender than other species...

We have gray and green treefrogs. I have gray one that is resident on my front porch. During the day he hides under the lip of the siding and at night comes out to eat moths by the porch light. Others are by my pond in the trees, lawn and fence. I've never seen them in my ponds but that doesn't mean they don't go in there. They do make a big sound for such little guys.

Does everybody have frogs but me? I have had my pond filled up since mid April, thinking I would have frogs soon. I can't even sleep for running out to listen and see if I hear any.

I'm sorry to tell you that it took several years for them to find my ponds but I am in the middle of a big city. Someone in your area might have some tadpoles you can import to your pond. You need lots of algae for them to eat and plants for cover.

I've only had my pond a year. I've had these green tree frogs at my house for at least 18 years. They don't have to have a pond to reproduce, must have found enough water somewhere. Same with the toads, just makes me wonder where they had enough water to reproduce before. Glenda

Went out tonight with a flashlight and there was a new visitor. Anyone know what kind this is? Is this normal size of adult or is this a youngster? Glenda

Glenda I had Cope's gray tree frogs move into my NJ pond in 3 weeks, but never laid eggs. The pond was too new and had no vegetation. They haven't returned since. Green frog tadpoles have metamorphosed(i think thats right) and stayed for a year or two, but slowly disappear. I hope you have better luck than me.

sweetkl, be patient...they will come...! I never knew we even had tree frogs in MN 'til I put in my pond! Now when I sit out by it at night I can count 10 or 20 Cope's greys on the siding of the house. I never see them in the water or during the day. The leopard frogs are the lily pad sitters!
