Name That Plant!

What is this Tall Yellow Flowering Plant?

I need to know if this TALL HUGE plant is a regular flower or a weed? It was a smaller plant last year that I believe I bought from a garden center. It was maybe 3 ft tall last year. This year it is already over 5 feet tall and growing fast daily. Ot has HUGE elephant size leaves at the bottom and keeps regrowing in the top middle and getting way taller - fast! It has beautiful yellow flowers, but it is soooo big I am concerned it is not really a normal perennial. Anyone know what this is so I can read about it? I am concerned about the weigela plant next to it. That used to be my biggest plant in this area.

You wouldn't buy it at a garden center, but your description fits Common Mullein. Does this picture seem right?

Maybe a Silphium? They're native wildflowers you might see in a garden center in Illinois. Prarie Dock, Silphium terebinthinaceum, has big basal leaves.

If its a Mullein.. they can be intimidating if you don't know what it is, hehe. is it fuzzy? Mullein is fuzzy. It a biennial, blooms second year as this on you described has done.

So, is it fuzzy?
