Creeping Jenny Devastation
Comments (1)On the Perennials forum someone else mentioned this happening. I don't have any idea what it is eating them at your place. I don't think it has a life span, but is due to the munching. It also likes moisture & prefers rich soil. It didn't grow so well for me in the shade in one bed, but when I moved it to an area richly amended with compost in more sunshine it took off like crazy. Then I went back to that 1st bed to amend more with compost & it's covered it as well. Could be the vine weevils in that 1st bed died down. I don't know if vine weevils attack it or not, but I know there were vine weevils in the 1st bed nibbling on the rhodie & the 'Wanda' Primrose. Maybe if you pull the weeds, add a lot of compost, it will spread again for you to fill in....See MoreGround cover that will grow/creep on brick?
Comments (5)Hi, Some creeping ground covers that may work there...dianthus 'artic fire' (other colors available)...alba, a hot pink and a red...and several creeping phlox would do. they spread out to about 1 1/2 - 2 feet across and I can lift the mass of it and for the most part is is growing from a central root system...snow in summer is another one but to be honest it looks beautiful when in bloom but ratty afterwards..Other ideas may be rock soap wart or thyme's....See MoreZone 10b: Dog Friendly Ground Covering (Creeping Perennial)
Comments (11)(likely a creeping perennial) ==>>> key word in that.. or letter is ... A ... NEVER rely on one plant .. ever ... the only real way.. to find ONE plant .. is to plant a mess of different kinds... and find out.. which will thrive in your courted micro climate ... so take all the recommendations.. and wing it .. there is no definitive answer ... and you will probably end up enjoying the variation ... having owned a golden.. your biggest problem.. will probably be... getting them to not dig them up.. to find out what you put under them .. rather large golden squirrels .. lol ... so figure out.. how to protect them.. long enough to get going ... though once established.. you should be all set .... BTW ... many of the ground cover are aggressive flowerers ... which will attract bees ... which my old golden.. used to enjoy eating.. really.. what was that all about .... though usually.. the flower season is rather short.. a week or two ... but they can make it difficult to walk in your court yard.. for that period ... ken...See MoreGround cover roses and ground cover clematis
Comments (11)Landscape roses are considered groundcover roses. They are low growing shrub roses (typically not exceeding 3') that spread much wider than they grow tall. Drift, Knock Out, Flower Carpet are all readily available landscape groundcover-type roses. It is not a defined category, but the roses are bred specifically for these attributes. They also tend to be very free flowering and low maintenance compared to other rose types. The issue with most groundcover clematis is that they behave exactly as do their vining cousins....except they don't vine :-) So for the most part, they are not tidy little clumping things but large rambling plants that can easily grow several meters a season. Combining the two - the wide, sprawling landscape roses and the long, rambling clematis - may not be as simple as it sounds without very careful cultivar selections....See Morelainey2 VA
