Sounds like a wonderful idea. I have tons of viola plants I'm planning on getting rid of, they spread like wildfire.They bloom white with blueish purple throats.They have already bloomed but I didn't catch the seeds.If your interested let me know. Deb DementedDeb1@aol.com

OK, thanks, I think I'll give it a whirl then and WS them. Never have grown them from seed before so I wasn't sure what to do. Kmpsmom, our weather here in Zone 6B tends to be sort of similar to Zone 7, so that's great to know you had success with WS'ing them. We had a cool spring and summer here in PA too because of all that rain. Aliska12000, I think I'll hold a few pansy seeds back too, that's a good idea. Maybe I'll sow them in containers in the spring just to see how those work. Thanks again for your follow up posts! Now I just need to get more seed starting mix...

Poppy, you can use a small glass jar with a self-sealing lid such as a jelly jar (or if it doesn't seal well, you can put some some plastic film over the jar opening before closing the lid). If the seeds and jar are dry to begin with, they'll stay dry in the container. If you need to remove moisture by some other means because the air is too wet, you could try a calcium chloride pellet/chip product (one sold here in the U.S. is called DampRid, but it may not be marketed internationally) by putting it into a tiny sachet inside the jar with the seeds.
