Cleaned my prefilters but not dirty

I pulled my prefilters yesterday out of both of my ponds and rinsed the screens and pumps off. It has been a couple of weeks since I have done it so I figured it was time.

The first 3 or 4 times I rinsed the screens off this Spring they were really covered in mud. I was having to do it about once a week.

This time there was not much on the screens so I guess the ponds are really clean and there is nothing for the prefilter to catch. The floors of my ponds look really clean and there is no string algae.

If you are not familar with my prefilter, it is only a 5 gallon pail that that the pump sits in. Then fiberglass screens are pushed down around the pump to the top of the pail.

Ignore the hoses in the picture since they just go to a water feature.

The pump inside the pail is connected to a pipe that runs to the biofilter. So the screens catch the dirt so it doesn't get into the biofilter. That way I rarely have to clean my biofilter. Actually it has been years since I have taken out my lava rock and cleaned it.

So I have clear water without a lot of work.

Is anyone else using a prefilter and how is it working for you?
