Go to your local feed&seed or coop store and buy some seed potatoes. Cut them into chunks wherever you see an eye sprouting. Buy some powdered sulfur and sprinkle it all over the raw potato, like flouring chicken before frying. Let them sit overnight. This will cauterize the wounds and help keep the potato from rotting once buried. Commercially grown potatoes are treated to keep them from sprouting eyes but you can go to the grocery store, buy a few potatoes, wash them with soap and water and put them in a dark, warm place. They will begin to sprout. Better still, ask the produce manager at your grocery store if he has any sprouted potatoes he has culled. He may not be able to give them to you but he will probably sell them for next to nothing. One plant will grow a bunch of potatoes.

Thanks George. I didn't think that the hydrangea (or much of anything large, for that matter) could survive in such a small hole. But you know what? I was so determined to have that stinking hydrangea there, lol, that I went back out with my pickaxe and pulled out 3 huge rocks (once I start I kinda get obsessed, lol!). Of course my DH, who got up at 3AM this morning to go fishing, wakes up from his nap and strolls outside just after I finish! So, I ended up with a huge hole and had to find soil to fill it in, lol! I did not, however, do any more detangling of the roots. Maybe I should dig it back up and finish the job? The hydrangea was thriving as it was until this summer with the drought and the added sun, so I guess the roots weren't that bad, but I hate to see that happen to a plant. Unfortunately, it seems to happen all too often in my yard. Roots everywhere - except where the rocks are! :) Dee

Thank you everyone! mydreamhome our neighbors have 5 GPM and they drilled down only 320 ft. but we are higher up on the mountain. The neighbors across the neighborhood on the other side of the pond from us actually had to dynamite to get the well. I have no clue what was done to find the spot for the well. We also had 4 geothermal wells done too, and all the wells are in one spot on the side of the driveway. Our lot is very very hilly so there was a limited area where the wells actually could go. We are paying the extra cost of this because we just had a well allowance and between doubling the cost + putting in the geothermal wells, we've got a shameful amount of money invested in wells already and really do not want to spend any more! Our inclination is to just go w/ the 4 GPM and we have 800 gallons of storage + a 150 gallon water heater, a 75 gallon water heater and a 50 gallon geothermal water holding tank. If we have an issue w/ water, our builder said we can just drill down deeper later, although it will cost more. GreenDesign, someone else on the other forum said that too. I wonder if it differs from place to place. I can't imagine our builder would have done something wrong, he is wonderful and extremely well respected here, everyone we talk to from the bank to accountants to tradespeople to random strangers we meet comments on how well built his houses are. And to answer the tub question, we went w/ the MTI caribe. I loved the customizability of being able to pick exactly what features we wanted and I loved that it was cheaper than the kohler!
