please explain about hybrids and open pollination

Can someone explain to me about hybrids and open pollination? I do now know ( afer looking it up) that Hybrid is a crossing of two different varieties with certain characteristics to give you a certain type plant, flower. Open pollination is done by wind or insects. My main question. Can you collect seeds from both? I somehow had the idea that hybrids didn't give you seeds and you had to buy them every year. But, now I think maybe it just means you CAN get seeds from the hybrid flower, but when that seed flowers, it might not look like the flower you got it from and open pollinated ones would. Is that correct?

If not please correct me. I like to collect seeds so my mian question would be, can I still get seeds from hybrids, even if they might not look like the parent?

I like to share seeds with my mom and sisters. Also can someone tell me how to change my e-mail addy info on garden web? I have a new e-mail addy and can't have follow up messages sent straight to me without changing it

Thanks, Cheryl
