Did I leave Dendrobiums outside too long...

I posted over a month ago regarding when to bring my dendrobiums inside. Well, I waited until just before our first frost.

The plants were outside when the temps were in the high 30's. Many of the plants had spikes and flower buds. Since I've brought them in, many of the spikes have dried up and died or the buds have died. Did the cold kill them, or was it the rapid change in temperature from outdoors to indoors? Was it the light? Very bright outside, dark inside until I got my lights set up. I am so disappointed. The plants grew wonderfully all summer and it was the first time I had spikes on plants I have had for 3 years! Rats! I'd appreciate some advice -- next year has just got to be different!

Thanks, Liz
