Hi Cameron, I made a few changes. The weather here is still really cold, my big pond still has ice on it. So for now, everything has to stay inside. I'm looking to move my couch out a bit to make more room for plants..lol. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had to take the seeds out of the aquarium. I still replace a cups of water every day or two in each container, and I'm still using the aquarium water. The problem I'm having now is my 18 year old cat has decided that the fish water tastes so much better than her water bowl. I've even put up barriers to keep her away, I don't know if the water will harm her. I've noticed that as the plants grow, the water clears up and less algae. I know algae is at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to aquatic plants. I'm going to hate to move them they look so nice. Oh the containers I'm using are beta fish containers. Good luck with your seeds, have you fertilized your other plants. I may be time to put them in a clay base. I've seen that after a seedling sprouts so far it will begin to float. If you don't plant it, it will rot. Craig

nmpondguy, thank you for your response. It is sound and wise advice. HOWEVER....I am not known to follow sound and wise advice. ;) Tonight, I did re-pot my lotus, following Joyce's recommendations for potting dormant tubers, using EXTREME caution with the coin leaves and root. I actually cut the old plastic pot off of it with scissors so I had to to minimal lifting and disturbing. I didn't feel anything snap, all leaves are intact and floating...we shall see how it goes. I decided that the current pot was impossibly small for any kind of success. Hopefully I'll have a good picture to share in July!

Squirelette, if you don't mind me asking, how deep is your pond and by heating do you mean keeping a hole in the ice open? Just curious. Update - I got brave and moved my parrot's feather from the pond shelf (where it had just the bottom few inches of the pot in water) to the bottom of the pond (entire plant submerged). The stems started growing straight up and must have been longer than I thought because within two days they broke through the water surface. We'll now see what happens to the leaves along the stem which were leaves that originally sprouted above the water. Thanks for everyone's input. Steve....Do you have any pictures? Having trouble here with the visual...I'm actually seeing two urns now LOL..maybe its time to switch to ice tea LOL...anyhow..I have two lotus near my waterfall and they seem to do ok with the moving water..I have them planted in 16" or so of water...I'll drop them in the deep part once winter sets in..deep part is 32" @ max depth....thanks for the kind forum comments...we have fun here.....Dave :-)
