Japanese Painted Fern (niponicum Pictum)

I have 7 Japanese Painted Fern in a 5x5 area and they have been in place close to ten years. This year for first time the distal tip on 2 have changed so they look like they have a wide multiple tip as if the tip has divided many times. Also the color on the 2 that changed the tip,are more bright green without that silvery grey coloring more typical of the niponicum pictum. The more typically colored fern are in the same 5x5 space and have not changed at all. Is this not a Japanese Painted fern? The only other change is to their habitat conditions. This past January we took down 5 huge 80 foot oak trees. Now they get more sun but are doing well. Is this common? Pictures enclosed.
