Good morning Joann, I can't wait to see new pics of your gorgeous pond and babies this year.

The stream will empty into my pond. It's 6 in deep and has a couple of pools in it that are abt 8 in deep and there won't be any fish in it. I do plan on adding plants to it. Thanks for your help. Sandi

Most people have gravel and rocks in thier streams, because the stream with gravel acts as a bed for good bacteria. They will also stick to bare liner, but the gravel looks better. Having rocks in the stream isn't the same as having rocks in the pond.

Nancy, I've seen lots and lots of pics of streams with gravel and they are all beautiful. I would have to "stick" my gravel into a thin layer of concrete to make it easier to clean because we have too many leaves and "helicopters" from neighbors' trees, but I just can't afford to buy one more rock this year.

Sandi, you can make the stream rocked it will act as a bed for good bacteria as nancy said. The water will pass through the stream and get scrubbed by everything in it's path. I would suggest bigger rocks rather than smaller rocks/pebbles -- I mean fist size -- only because they can be easily moved around and turned around when you clean the stream. This is what we have in our biological pond and in the beach section of the main pond.
When they look dirty I hose them and turn them around (the other side is always clean and shiney. We have a lot of trees as well, and this time of year we're constantly surface skimming with a net. Another week or so it will be over.

This is the size I mean...we hose them off when they look dirty and turn them to expose the clean side.
Since you'll have no fish in the stream they won't get dirty as quick as they will without the fish.This is our shallow beach, it's easily manageable because it shallow, the rest is bare bottom. Your's will be easily manageable as well, when the rocks look dirty just turn them over.

Joann, Another beautiful pic of your pond and babies. I never tire of seeing your pics.

I would love to be able to rock the bottom of my stream, but I can't afford to buy more rocks this year. But I do think I like the idea of using fist sized rocks instead of smaller ones when I can rock it. I don't know if they will look too big though since the stream is only 2' wide.

I have the liner laid in place and am just waiting for the seam tape to come in to attach the stream to the pond. I was just hoping someone had some pics of their stream without rocks that I could see.

This one doesn't really address your desire to see a stream with a liner bottom, but given your appreciation of Joann's pond, I thought you'd find Autumn's stream equally as pleasing.

David, I've seen Autumn's stream and it is fantastic. If I had Joann's pond and Autumn's stream I would have the perfect setup.

Sandi, I misunderstood, I thought you wanted rocks in your stream.
The liner stream will look fine, you can always add rocks here and there. Your stream will act as a biological pond, put lots of hyacinth in the stream--as hyacinth with it's long flowing roots is the best water purifier for a pond.
BTW, all the small rocks and round rocks in and around our pond were acquired by adoption. We went on many rock hunts to find them...the only rocks we purchased were the flat ones.
That was the funnest part -- finding rocks.

Joann, I would love to have my stream bottom rocked, but can't do it this year. If there is any "rock finding" around here I don't know about it, but I sure wish I did. They're expensive around here also.

Sandi, What state do you live in? I think there is rocks in most states. When you dig your stream, won't you unearth any rocks?
Check out any construction sites, as soon as the earth is dug up around these sites, the rocks are dug up too.

We got a lot of our round rocks both big and small, when they were building a shopping center in our town. We went every night and brought home buckets full of rocks.
Carry a bucket and shovel in your trunk and be on the lookout for rocks.
I'm always looking for rocks, I need a bumper sticker that says "I brake for rocks"

Joann, I live in SE NC very near the ocean. NO rocks! LOL I've never found any rocks larger than 1" in my yard. There is a very rough rock called "rip-rap" they get when they dredge here that they sell. 14 yrs ago I bought almost 3 tons for $175. Today they are almost that much for 1 ton plus $75 delivery per load and they are among the CHEAPEST ones. There's nothing around here except sand! LOL

This is a rock I found, we call it "the frog rock" cause it looks like a frog. We also found one that looks like an alligators head, we put that one by the big waterfall and have water coming off it.

The frog rock, even the color is pretty, it's a golden rock...note the detail in the hind leg...this is a view of the back of the frog...

Joann, That DOES look like a frog and I can see his "hind leg" very well.

The seam tape is in. I'm just waiting for the sun to dry the overnight moisture from the liner. I had to build the area up for the stream so I still have wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of soil and rocks to add around the liner.
