Pond....making a well...sucking clean water??

Hi all

I put a little pond in about 15 years ago, it served us well for the

vegetable garden only, but now over several years we didn't get the

snow runoff we used to get and the level is staidly decreasing to a point

that there is no water left towards the end of season.

I build a little bridge over the pond from were I used to suck with a bucket strainer,

it worked fine but now since I will increase the size of pond this year,

I want to incorporate a well into the slope, a culvert, vertically down,

it is 24" in diameter and about 20 feet long, now comes the question, how should this be done.

My idea is, gain about another 6 feet of depth, [ below the bottom of pond] and hopefully get some ground water? ....put down some 2/4" rock first, about 2 or 3 feet deep, then the pipe on top and more rock around it....will this work? The ground is sandy clay.

My only concern is, will the rocks ever get clogged that it restricts the

water flow up the pipe?
