Good job! My first two orchids died so i bought three more! Two died but the third held on and is doing great! After that i got 1,2,3,4,5... what can i say, it's addicting! Could you post some pics? I'd love to see! Also, do you know what type you have? Does it have a label?

Maybe the patience you learn w/ roses gets you ready for orchids. I'm convinced I've stared some to death.

You're not silly in the least. I've been growing orchids for over a decade and still get a thrill when I see new growth.

Ooooops! Heth this may be wayyyy too belated but I had several chaos happening/stuff to arrange on the home front.

That tiny turnip has only grown from 1/2" to 2" (it's a foreshortened angle so looks smaller than it really is) and it's almost the end of September.

My other orchid's baby leaf is at a standstill for 3 months!!!! whereas it's other bifoliate leaf grew like dynamite (within 1-2 weeks)! I still suspect that secondary bifoliate leaf is hiding something??? maybe it is indeed hiding a spike???? It's still spotted! even 3 months later and barely grew whereas it's other bifoliate leaf didn't have any spots on it. Naughty orchid is taking forever! But then I read other people waiting 2 whole years. I'd go beserk! LOL!

LOL whitecat8!! I'm afraid I might do that to both of mine! I stare at all my other plants too and the only ones that have bloomed for me are my thanksgiving cacti...maybe staring inhibits blooms?

serenashy - congrats on the orchids! I'm a newbie with them myself and it does seem like they take forever compared to other plants like the spider plant that needs to be put in a bigger pot every 6 months! Good luck on that stuck leaf...maybe tell it some inspirational stories of the Giant Peach or the Little Train that Could?

I know exactly what you mean about the happy dance. I have being rolling around on the floor with my cat, that's just one of the many examples of how I have being feeling with my orchid, that I just repot it and it has some growth on it. Congratulations and enjoy your orchids.

I'm actually doing even worse than staring LOL, LOL! Poor orchids are being tortured because I am completely unable to stop myself from poking around in the bark! I am even worse than a starer, I'm a poker and prodder. LOL! I give an excuse like uuuuuhhh, you don't see me poking, I'm just making sure the moss underneath is continuing to dry up properly and steady, yeahhhhhhh, like uh-huh!

I keep getting touchy-feely with that poor leaf/pod? too, trying to feel if there is any spike enclosed in that completely sealed up leaf. It's never ever unfurled. So weird, compared to that other normal baby leaf that became full-sized so quickly.
