Brady: It's a single gene taken from a poplar tree. The gene is inserted into a fruit say Flavor King pluot. They now have a FK that blooms all year to use as a parent in a breeding program. The offspring have the ECF gene so bloom very young making selection of superior offspring much faster. After selection the gene is removed and you have a new variety that is normal, it needs chilling and fruits once a year. As a novelty the gene could be insert in say Sweetcrisp and guys like me would have a blueberry that fruited all year. I'd pay big bucks for that assuming the fruit was identical to the normal SC. It would be a GMO with the gene in place. But that won't bother me.

Wow, I guess NYC never sleep. I will check out Fraser's Thimble Farm to buy their beautiful P Barcena. Now I only know mine are randomly collected wild species shipped from Tibet. I would imagine they have encountered a sudden drop of elevation and a rise of temperature. A couple pseudobulbs have long flower-shoots. So I probably do have a "gift horse in the mouth", for winter growing. lol. The website says the high temperature must not exceed 24 C which is 75 F. The low temperature is above freezing. I am in zone 8 - 8b perhaps. So I think I can set them out in my sunroom (which is zone 10). Next summer, I imagine they will naturally yellow when it gets too warm (like Cyclamen). Well, educate me if you don't think so.

Voodoo Lily is found in the mountains of Crete, so it will like hot dry summers and mild wet winters ( (Mediterranean climate). We did not see it at high altitude, so I would think it would only need minimal pre-chilling in a damp compost. It's also found only in forests so will not need full sun. The "soil" is very alkaline and stony ( limestone). Good luck. Ian.

Rather astounding at the flagrant dismissal some can give to documented evidence - not just babble back anecdotal reports - at the risks involved in indefinitely delaying dormancy of temperate zone plants! We are not talking about all the number of many species on the planet, only those that are native to temperate regions of the globe where a necessary period of dormancy is part of their genetic biological make up. And I could also suggest that rather than tossing about cheap (and unsubstantiated) statements such as "the other person is, quite bluntly, completely wrong and unable to change their minds and update their knowledge with some research" that the poster do their own research, as they appear to be grossly uninformed. Even any reputable bonsai site will state the same. Completely wrong?? So then I guess is the vast majority of the rest of the population!! Just a little arrogance happening here. Bonsai Learning Center: "the vast majority actually need the cold in order to put them into “sleep mode” for the winter. If they don’t get it, they are like marathon runners who never rest. They begin to slow down and gradually lose vigor. Eventually over time, they simply run out of energy and die. tropical parts of the world do not need this dormancy period as they do not
