I'm so excited to see all the sprouts popping up here and there. I've been caring for plenty of new seeds. Since I cant stay outside forever I'm posting some pictures to curb my impatience for blooms and backyard visitors from last year and Some from the past few days...I might never reach pcan's Heavenly pond lol I just started water gardening last year but maybe one day :) Feel free to share your favorite pics! MY CURRENT PROJECT....A REAL POND! IT WILL TAKE QUITE A WHILE SINCE IT'S JUST ME DIGGING AND I'M ALL OF 100LBS AND ALSO THE PRICE OF EVERYTHING TO SET IT UP...SO SLOW AND EASY AND I'LL COMPLETE IT ONE DAY :)

Very nice shots. What are you using for those closeups?

Since it appeared that you were attempting to do your big pond ecconomically, may I make a repeat of my suggestion of a small stream. It doesn't really add to the cost (other than a few more feet of pump tubing), assuming that you end up with a scrap or two of liner that could be used to line a small trench, and it allows one to forget about the uv and other filtering.

Thankyou. I have a Canon Rebel XS EOS I have wanted to get a macro lens because getting those closeups can be trying with the standard one but It's worked so far:)

As far as your suggestion thank you. I don't really know where I would be placing the stream since the pond is backed up into a corner. I have so many ideas up in the air right now including using the above pictured preform as some type of skippy or holding tank for the waterfall...but if I'm honest with myself I feel like digging a hole and lining it is way over my head right now! lol!!

Thanks guys, I had to pull out all the plants put in by the home builder and redid the beds 2 1/2 years ago, no landscaper involved :) WS list- Candymountain foxglove seeds from T&M, second year now, has some seedlings don't know if it would come true from seeds. Soapwort, Sweet william and chives all WS in their second year. Peach Iris and most of my Iris are store bought.I hated them first because I wanted PINK, but these had been very prolific bloomers and fast growers. gave away about half of what i have now and they caught up fast. Love them!! I can dig up some later on. pennstomon -from store bought plant never got to grow from seed.

Viktoria, I wish I could say they were Angelique but they are Foxtrot. I plan on ordering some Angelique this fall because they look gorgeous. I love the pink, purple and white color scheme too. I'm getting to where I like just about any kind of color scheme I believe. lol! Yes I would rather you guys drool than the deer. They are the dangest creatures. I found one rose bush in the middle of about twenty others that something has striped every new bud off of. grrrrrr..... I sprayed some LF last night since the new growth is coming on like gangbusters in hopes of keeping the deer at bay. I know what you mean about the squirrels. I like the idea of trying to trap them. I may have to look into that. The squirrels get in my beds and dig little holes everywhere and pull plants straight out of my pots. Yes they are cute little creatures but enuf is enuf!!! Trailrunner, Have you ever tried to leave them in the ground? I planted the majority of mine this past fall but have planted some before that have returned. Plus you could make sure you look for ones that are known to return year after year. I would get aggravated though with the leaves during the summer trying to leave them as long as possible for next years blooms and would always end up cutting them back toooo soon. I have mellowed some and hope I can make myself leave them this time since I planted so many and plan to plant some annuals around them to help cover the leaves up some. Hi mnswgal, So glad the snow has begun to melt. Those daffs and crocus will all be open before you know it. Thanks you all for your nice comments. I'm so ready to plant more tulips and spring blooming bulbs for next year. It just never ends does it!!! Thanks again, Judy

Thank you everyone for your sweet compliments. Plantmaven- The day it snowed was kind of strange, it was a fair amount above freezing with snow. The children loved it. Today on the other hand is perfect, 20c clear blue Sky and no bugs. My gardening heaven. Schoolhouse- Right now the cottage is being rented out to GI Joe and Polly Pocket but I will be sure to put your name on the waiting list. :c) Sweetannie- The neighbor who gave me the tiny irises told me that while she was on vacation she saw a house with a sea of these instead of grass. (I wish I had seen it) And the home owner gave her a clump of each colour when she stop to investigate. Such a treat! Do they multiply quickly for you? Ianna- I know you are right. But it was all the beautiful wild flowers that Mother Nature had plant here that inspired me to start gardening. And they are what keep me inspired (along with all of you of course). I love it when things pop up in unexpected places. For the most part, if they can find a home they are welcome to it. GGG- Yes they are pink and blue Forget-Me-Not (perennial) another one Mother Nature planted for me. I love them! Kay- Yes I am proud :0). I pour my heart and soul in to my family and my garden. And like anything in life, you get out, what you are willing to put in. CMK- I grew the English Daisies from seed. Actually they were the first thing I grew from seed. I just through them at the ground in early spring. And they have been coming back ever since. They bloom twelve months a year for me in my zone 5 garden. I am constantly brush the snow off of them to show people. They have done well and bloomed in every condition I have thrown at them, sun, shade, wet, dry it just doesn't seem to matter. If you are the type of gardener that likes everything in it's place you might not care for them though. They are a really good seeder. You would have to be pretty vigilant with deadheading if you did not want them to spread a bit. I would be more then happy to send you lots of seeds if you would like. A few more shots from today. Mocc, good eye! I looked back at the tag and there was an "s" peeking out of the very edge of the mulch, so it must be a Lakeside Black Satin sport. They get me with those occasionally, especially when they've newly mulched! I corrected the original post to help out others. That one is a real looker, wish it was available!

Wow, the Canon has some range. I assumed it was a Macro. I know you really didn't ask, and I agree that you have enough interesting stuff going, and otherwise should probably relax, but I had actually thought you could put a Small stream where the soccer ball is in the last picture. Or your preform could be the stream.

Beautiful pictures! Thanks for sharing. I'd say you are well on your way to ponding and water gardening. I am amazed at what you were able to grow from seed. I have not attempted it yet but it seems difficult. Especially the lotus. I would love to grow lotus one day. It looks like your soil is very sandy. That makes digging much easier. Keep us posted on your progress :)

Thank you guys! Chas I'm always open for suggestions:) about where the soccer ball is I envisioned doing a stacked water fall which would be what you view when you stand straight on with the pond and maybe a stream coming away from it and coming around the right side of the pond and spilling into a different area (if that makes any sense lol) we'll see.
pcan, Thank you! I won't finish nearly as quickly as my brain wants me to. with two toddlers I only get about an hour to dig at a time lol. Lotus are so easy!! I have a blug actually from last year I'll include the link...it def. needs updating tho. I'm really thrilled about the blue and pink lilies that have sprouted from seed my mature plant just poked its 1st bud of the season out of the soil yesterday!

And another surprise!!! I have been waiting on this iris for almost two years to bloom! Walked outside to water everything and saw black on my iris. I was all "oh no what happened why is my plant turning black? (obviously I need glasses) upon further inspection it's sending out its first flower and there's a second one right beside it!!!

Still won't be finished anytime soon but I'm getting closer. Like I said before with two toddlers, a puppy, a new kitten, Fl. heat, money, and me being 100lbs really limits my time/resources and strength.....but determination is my drive. My dad and hubby laughed at me when I told them I was going to dig my pond by hand.....well I'm laughing now....and probably have bigger biceps than both of them now too :P ROFL.

YOU GO GIRL!!!! I went thru the same thing trying to tame this yard of mine and the "men" all poo pooing my ideas....now they say " What can I do to help!?" since they like the way it turns out!!! (Best bud lives on the property with Hubby and me)I am going to be rebuilding a section of my pond this year since the sand all collapsed. Gotta build a better retaining wall.
