I was hoping someone with experience with high winds would answer. I don't have strong winds here, but I would guess that the stems might bend over in wind. I think the stems on some are stronger than others. My Mrs. Perry D. Slocum's stem seem to be really tough, while my American and Egyptian's seem to be less so.
I'm thinking your dwarfs would be even less tough....but they wouldn't be as tall either. If you could find a place with lots of sun, but a bit protected would probably be the best.
I know this doesn't help much, but I couldn't stand to see your post go unanswered! :)

Yeah, that's another reason why I shouldn't try lotus, either. The winds get flat crankin' through this farmland sometimes. :(

Thanks for the info. Well I ordered one so I'd best find a sunny calm spot for it and print out Joyce's instructions. I never did find out if you guys think composted sheep manure will work the same as cow manure. What do you think?

Yeah, German, especially when screamed, can be pretty intimidating.
I worked in a cafe on an island in the North Sea when I was around 19. The Germans definitely knew how to work hard! And yes, I got screamed at a few times by my boss too and it WAS scary!

Where'd you learn that French, John?
When my boyfriend and I traveled through France......a few centuries ago.....we knew absolutely no French. We thought we knew the word for "train station", but found out later that we'd been asking "Where's the war?" hahahaha they probably thought "yeah, that's just like the Americans to be looking for some war to get into". hahahahaha No wonder we got such bad looks. hahaha

Hi.
I bought a water lotus (Not sure of name) at my local greenhouse in early June. Plant was potted in a large plastic lotus pot. A few small leaves were showing. I brought it home and just put plastic pt inside a larger black ceramic pot (did not repot). Placed pot in very very sunny location of my garden that gets well over 6 hours of direct sunlight a day.
Here's my problem I still have only a few stunted leaves!!! What can I do . Help.

I wouldn't mess with repotting it right now. Have you fertilized it? Is it possible that there's something in the black paint that maybe wasn't meant for water plants? How many floating leaves do you have, and when you say they are "stunted", what do you mean? More info will help us figure this out.
I have one lotus that has been really slow this year too.
If you haven't fertilized it, you really need to. Get some pond tabs or Jobe's tomato fertilizer spikes and put about 3-4 in the container, down in the soil, away from the plant.
How big is the container that its actually planted in?
Do you know what kind of lotus it is?

Here's some of the information requested. I have fertilized with pond fertilizer but I question weather the tabs are any good (last years) and I did only put 2 in. I haven't a clue about the pots paint but none seems to have leeched off of the pot.There are only 4 floating leaves with the largest being 1 1/2" in diameter and there is a floating "tuber" in there. Pot that plant is actually planted in is about 20" round approx 12" to 15" deep heavy plastic. This came from the greenhouse. As far as the nme of the Lotus all that was marked on it was Medium Dark Pink.
