Thank you for the comments on the pot. It is one of mine I did a few years back. I have been thinking of going back into ceramics as there are not a lot of what I call nice pots especially for cactus.

Yasu Pallas, The picture is not distinct enough for me to identify for sure, but it almost looks like a piece of a succulent milkweed dropped off of a mother plant and fell there - they do that all of the time and root easily. You'll want to soon separate those plants, as they, from what I can see (a Euphorbia, an Opuntia and a Haworthia), have different cultural requirements. A few pictures which show your whole arrangement (which looks quite healthy) would help us ID them. Can I name #2 'Shelob'? Well for now you can. But if it should turn out to be a male, we'll have to revisit the naming. heh Nancy, the blue bugger in the first pic is a baby Avicularia versicolor. Ah, but Karyn, they are SOOOOOOOO low maintenance compared to other pets! And yes that one (a Chromatopelma cyanopubescens) being one of the New World T's has hairs that some find irritating. (Though on the plus side, as with all the New World T's, the venom is weaker than that of the Old World T's.) A good T for your son (really!) as long as he will keep in mind that this is a look but don't touch pet. Cc's are speedy devils. If I open the cube mine currently calls home, it immediately dives for the bottom of its webbing. If I were to try to take it out to handle it, however, it would zip away like the "Flash". Originating in arid regions of Venezuela, it prefers a drier set up (whereas some species require high humidity), normal room temps are fine, is an enthusiastic eater (which is entertaining), remains out and about most of the time (some T species hide 99% of the time), and webs heavily (which is cool). Erin, boy that could be uncomfortable when it starts to "kick". (Bad enough when there's only two kicking feet, I imagine.)
