Help me identify this mystery plant!

I have three of these plants growing right next to where I planted marigold starter plants. I assumed some seeds got mixed in my starter container and this plant was in the row next to the marigolds. However, I have looked up everything I can remember starting and have yet to figure out what these are.

The largest of the three is about two feet tall, the other ones are shorter but growing quickly. So far they have not flowered, no buds. They are extremely fragrant. We can't pinpoint the smell but it is spicy and reminds us of something you would use to flavor a dessert, kind of a mix of licorice and cinnamon. I looked up anise and it didn't look exactly the same. I also thought it could be carrot but I pulled two of them up and they have nothing growing that resembles a carrot, just a thin whitish tap root.
