It's getting the point where the anticipation for spring is becoming unbearable.... I thought these might cheer me up.

Those are lovely, thank you. I don't have any pics from this summer. Well, maybe I do. I'll look. In the meantime, I hope someone else posts some pictures.

Thanks sooo much for the fantastic photos ! It's snowing and sleeting here today, and your pics are just what the doctor ordered ! I love the way your flower bed has the large conifer edging for a backdrop, very appealing, it adds a dramatic flair to the photos. You have some great plant combinations too ! I like how you've matched textured foliage plants and flowers together ! It's really fun to see how your garden grows and changes through each season, until ole man winter claims it again. I absolutely love looking at others garden photos, it really inspires me, I just love looking at flowers, period..! Thanks again for allowing me to take a peak into your flower garden. I'll try to get a few more photos added to my file today and share some of my favorites with you.

I had six open shopping bags of canna on my cellar floor through winter, and even after being completely submerged for four days when the sump pump quit working, they were just fine. In fact, I forgot about them and was reminded by the unfurling leaves in June to take them outside. Treating some 'workhorse' dahlia varieties like you suggested would probably work okay, Morpheus, and if your three varieties of big box discount dahlia fail, you can always replace them easy enough. Some great varieties (that are quite nice) to treat that way would be Chilson's Pride or Mingus Toni, both of which have almost indestructible tubers and plenty of them, too. When you start collecting 'racehorse' varieties that can be difficult to overwinter, throwing them nonchalantly in the cellar may not work so well. Experienced growers occasionally lose the majority or part of their stock to storage issues, and some beautiful varieties are extremely hard to overwinter. That's why I suggest to folks just beginning that it is wise to store your favorite varieties a couple different ways in different locations until you settle on a storage method that gives you consistent results. There are some that treat dahlias as annuals, and just buy them each year, avoiding the work of digging and storing. Once you start a collection, it is harder to treat them like annuals as the same varieties may not be available year to year.

I'm always drawn to the calm pastels: Butterscotch Beauty and Morning Makeup are my favourites. But I have never seen a lily I didn't like. They are all lovely. We are still having cold, wet weather up here, so thanks for the little lift.

Thanks Kelly and David! Kelly, they really do seem to love it outdoors, nothing like some fresh air, a little sun and rain that kicks them in gear. David, I received a couple of cuttings of diversifolia in Nov. '08...so I've had it less than two years. Like you said...it grew quickly but wouldn't bloom. I get impatient sometimes when a hoya looks big/mature enough to bloom and won't,lol...Patience has never been a virtue I've been blessed with. My mango is a grafted tree that was purchased in a 5 gallon pot. BTW, its a semi-dwarf. It's only around 5ft or so tall right now...I'm planning on keeping it under 10ft for easy winter protection and fruit picking. David, I think you need to get a mango tree...you can keep in your greenhouse(with your hoyas) in the winter,lol... Here's a picture shortly after I planted it 3yrs ago.

Thanks for the compliment; I'm really glad it's clear, because yesterday, our large red-eared slider escaped from the backyard turtle enclosure, and after having given up looking for it and turning to go back inside, I happened to see it clear as a bell at the bottom of the koi pond :-)

Even though it's 5ft deep, you really can see a penny (or a large turtle) at the bottom of the pond...

Thanks for the video! The sounds is music to me ears :) I haven't heard my waterfall for what seems like ages. The yard is so quiet in the winter :(

Just found this pic and LOVE IT!!! We are getting close folks, spring is just around the corner. We've had highs in the 40's the last few weeks and getting up into the 50's this week. No more ice on the pond! Can't wait to get her running!!!

Pcan, I am so jealous of your pond!! Do you have a step by step? And (if you don't mind) price calculations? I've been planning to dig a pond since we just bought our first home a few months ago. but I feel really overwhelmed! and don't want to start and not be able to afford to finish.
