Zoysia Varieties

I live in Birmingham, AL and most Zoysia is either Emerald or Z-52. However, some sod farms have Empire Zoysia, which has a much coarser leaf blade almost resembling St Augustine. I've looked at NTEP ratings and it looks like Emerald is the gold standard with Z-52 doing very good but definitely not as good as Emerald. If my memory serves me correctly, Emerald has better wear tolerance, disease & pest resistance, recovery from divots, & greens up faster than Z-52.

Unfortunately, there isn't any NTEP data on Empire. Does anyone know how Empire stacks up against Emerald & Z-52? I'm really interested in finding out the 3 varieties' differences in Spring green up, shade tolerance, growth rate (the faster the better because of dog urine), disease & pest resistance, fertility requirements & drought tolerance.

Thanks for your input.

Jimmy
