Please help -- mix for Doritaenopsis

I've fallen in love with Doritaenopsis-- not the complex hybrids, but the ones that are 50% Doritis.

I just got a Coral Gleam and a Red Elf, both 50% Doritis. I also have a Qeen Beer and a Fire Crackher, same kind of ancestry.

The Coral Gleam and Red Elf came in a very dry mix with some bark, charcoal, perlite and what looks like big chunks of dark grey rock.

I know some growers use a very dry mix and mist or water daily. I also know Doritis and Dtps need to be "drier than phals", but I'm used to sphag and would like to keep the Dtps in sphag as well. I'm unfamiliar with the properties of the rocky mix, and I'm in over my eyebrows trying to figure out how often to water that.

Could I grow the Dtps in sphag in clay pots, perhaps, and just water less often? Maybe add a little lava rock to the sphag?

If you have experience with these beautiful things, I would really love to hear how you grow them. I need to learn fast so I don't lose them.
