Dzitmoidonc - YES! I found a photo and it matches perfectly. Whew! This morning I looked at it again and convinced myself it was a poison ivy or poison oak or some kind of poison something. And the squirrels in our neighborhood are NUTS (ha!) for those big walnuts, they drag them around all over the place. Mystery solved. Yay! Thanks everybody!

*happy dance* That's it! Many, many thanks saltcedar! The pictures match exactly and upon further Google searching of Barbarea vulgaris I found even more crystal clear images matching mine. Woohoo! Now, on a sad note, the reading suggests it's a "weed" so I'm not sure what to do. I've found some of the prettiest flowers are considered weeds. Like I said this grows on the side of the house I didn't think would be able to produce colorful plants (other than green), which is why I'm hesitant to cut this one down. I'm gonna leave it. I have nothing else growing (aside from grass) on that side of the house so I'll just see what happens. I'll be on again in the next few days to post some pics of two unidentified bushes (that have thorns but no blooms for two seasons) that are driving me bonkers not knowing what the hay they are.

Thanks, Rhizo. I have no problem with a weedy lawn, as long as it's all green and there isn't anything prickly in there. I'm certain there is more clover etc. than grass! I just don't care for bare spots, which I'm working on now, going through the watering new seed routine. I had a landscaper look at it and he suggested starting over--killing the lawn and reseeding the whole thing or putting in sod. I don't care that much, plus my priorities on "this old house" are more on the interior, not to mention the expense and mess. The landscaping just needs to be presentable so I don't look like the trashiest house on the street. :) I've planted a few perennials this year, and have beautiful azaleas all around the house that just need a little tlc and shaping. It'll take a couple (few!) years, but I think it'll look great with a little planning and pruning.
