SP/VV has been attending the ASLA annual meeting in Boston - sorry for the diversion. That really looks like an Ilex integra to me - insofar as I know that species, which is only slightly. Any chance of images of the potential parent plants from the park? If this purloined seedling is related, then the buds/foliage will likely have affinity. Help us by providing that imagery. THEN: provide (maybe in another thread - Trees? Shrubs?) a list of those Ilex with which you have wuv.

prunus lusitanica aka "portugal laurel" related to but much less common than p. lauracerasus of "english laurel" hedge fame. makes a nice evergreen tree with white flowers and bitter tasting cherries that birds like to eat.

What's crazy is that after being told the OP tree was a sitka and the mariana was an omorika, thus planting both in the wrong places, I found some lovely young Picea omorikas at Loen's wholesale for only $15 each last month. They were stunted but I bought 2. They were B&B with burlap and twine still tight on tiny rootballs then put into black 15 gallon containers. Horrified to pull them out of containers and see that burlap and twine. We unwrapped and untangled everything and planted them and watered a lot and lo and behold both are doing well. Put one in front in raised bed with lots of sun and surrounded by hot pokers and seasonal flowers. Put other raised up in wet spot where everything else has croaked, as experiment. Gets a lot of sun there. It's doing well, don't have a picture of it yet. Here's the new baby Picea omorika in the front bed (sorry, fuzzy pix): Can't believe after all this I ended up with 2 omorikas!
