Awesome, I was hoping you would see the post auteck! What mixture should the kbg/fescue/prg be? I see you recommend heritage g and disarm g, that was no PRG in it correct? My yard is all clover and dead spots right now. I figure I would rent a sod cutter and slice 2" off the top, till in some compost, some fertilizer and line (going to get soil tested by ag extension), seed, and water daily if it doesn't rain. Should a put straw over top?

NC Lawn Nut, The new Elite KBG are very tough when it comes to heat and drought tolerance. My research and experience with KBG vs Fescue has been very favorable. My lawn is on a High Maintenance schedule, so I expect a lot out of it. If I wanted the same results out of Fescue, I'll be very disappointed. KBG is not for the masses, Fescue is for the most part in the transsition zone. I don't grow Fescue because with my maintance schedule I get MUCH better results with KBG. Af far as water usage, I've only water my lawn 3 times so far this summer to my neighbor's Zoysia 7 times. His lawn looks good and green with some winter damage (still) but not dark green like mine right now, and then it turns brown in the Fall and does not fully come back until May or early June. I don't concider KBG a water-hog, you need to train the grass roots to grow deep in the soil by letting the grass go thru a temporary drought period. Just for testing purposses, I let one side of my yard with NOT water to see the results. After record high temperatures in early June and lack of consistant rainfall, my Monostand of Midnight II started to go off color and dormant. Rain came and it greened back up to about 90%. Then it rained again a few days later, and today is about 99% green with no additional care. My neighbors Fescue lawn with the same care is about 85% green today despite rainfall. There's no doubt wether or not KBG grows in your area, it does. The question is: Do I want Fescue or Bluegrass? You decide. To me, the answer is very clear.

SOMEONE PUT ME AT EASE.. I've got the green haze look. But, am pretty concerned. ...it's coming in uneven. I'm got some area where there is clearly green sprouts, and then other areas where just dirt. It seems like all the green are in patches where the straw is a little thicker, and then some patches of little to no straw where I have no germination. I'm wondering if I got washed out, and the areas of thicker straw held up better and also caught the seed of other areas ? BTW, I don't think it could be because of the typical straw holding moisture better. We've had enough rain where the ground has stayed consistently wet. (Almost too much) Tiemco? Anyone else? The only positive idea I can think of is that the straw incubated the seed a bit and helped hold temps and it is germinating faster. I'm at day 12.

You're in the northern Central Valley of California. Have you seen any other KBG or fescue lawns in your neighborhood? I could easily be wrong but I was thinking bermuda was king around there. If so, then it's too hot for KBG. If I'm wrong, then you need to check the NTEP testing for grasses in your area. Bewitched and Bedazzled are old names for some deep green, Elite KBG varieties. Mostly those were used in the Midwest as I recall. If this forum goes back far enough you would have seen a lot of discussion about those two. But I believe there are newer varieties that surpass those for one reason or another.
