Composting Existing Lawn Mistake!

Hi. I recently switched to organic lawn care and decided to try to get my soil healthy again my spreading compost over the large bare spots. I just didn't have the budget or motivation to do the entire yard. I mowed those spots very short, then spread compost, then seeded, then lightly raked the seed in, then watered. Now, 2 days later i realized that i have laid the compost on too thick (up to 1") in some spots and I'm worried that I'm going smother the grass. So I tried to rake those spots out to thin it out, which is extremely tough after the compost is already wet. Now, I can see the grass, but it still looks like there's a ton of compost on the yard. Ugh - what a mess.

My question is: Will my grass grow through the compost layer or did i do more damage than good? Should i seed again since I have disturbed the seed spread that I applied prior to raking it out again?

thanks!
