Scurf Pea it is!! Thanks to all of you. PJ, LOL your link had me thinking maybe it was a mutant Lupine...the foliage is so similar, I WISH the flower heads ended up like Lupine as well. There are very few of these on the property and I had wondered for years what they were but when you're searching "mutant bluebonnet", LOL well it didn't get me very far. They kind of bring to mind something Will Robinson might have come across in his adventures ;). Julie, since there are so few here I will see how seed production goes with them. Barb, I feel very fortunate to have the variety of wildflowers that we do here....but I share your pain on the weeds. Believe me, they are much more prolific here than the wildflowers. Linda, were you already familiar with the name Scurf Pea? If not, how the heck did you find it??? What kind of environment (sun/shade, etc) did you see the one growing in? I have a total of about 6-7 of these plants here, all but one are in afternoon shade and one is in full sun. It is being an outstanding year for the wildflowers here after two years of drought and almost non-existent blooms. I really thought that I had lost all of the bluebonnets here, but this year they are blooming in profusion and in areas where they have never bloomed before. Can't wait to see what the rest of spring has to bring. What amazes me the most is the huge numbers of really tiny little plants that have tiny little blooms there are. I'll do some pics of those soon since I have no idea what most of them are. The only people that would even notice that they exist are gardeners and when I've pointed them out to non-gardeners, the reponse I've gotten is a bored "oh yeah".....LOL.
