Name That Plant!

Yellow Wildflower

This photo of a yellow wildflower was taken in Arkansas on April 17th. It was in a woodland ditch, and was fairly shaded throughout the day. The plant is roughly 16 inches tall, with a stalk around 3/16 inch wide. The flower is similar to a dandelion, and the leaves are 8-10 inches long. Any ideas on i.d.?

Looks like a Buttercup. I don't know if it's the kind that spreads with seeds or runners. Pretty, but can be difficult to control.

If the flower is associated with those palmate leaves on the ground it might be a buttercup; but it looks more like it's part of the larger strap-like leaves. And the poster says it looks like a Dandelion. My suggestion would be Krigia biflora, Two flowered Cynthia.

I'd go with Brassica napus, Rape or Canola, too. It often appears on roadsides and field edges here where seed gets spilled or crop residues get spread around.

Weedwoman, I'm pretty sure that it is either Krigia occidentalis, Krigia virginica, or Krigia biflora, and think you might be right in the biflora i.d. However, I haven't been able to get on the USDA site today to compare drawings, because their site is apparently down. tyvm for the lead!!
