OK the assassin bugs have arrived, but what are they doing?

I have swarms of assassin bugs on my sunflowers, but they only seem to be mating, they are not eating the mexican bean beetles. maybe since they are congregating way up high on the sunflowers, they never see the beetles that are down on the squash? anyway, theese buggs sure do fly fast! when you walk near them, they swarm around. FAST! possibly they are eating during the day while I am at work, and they retire to the sunflowers in the evening/morning for fun and games?
