If you have green leaves on some of the exposed canes, you must be doing something right. We have everbearing red raspberries, for 10 or 12 years now. We also have soil high in clay, with a pH around 7.6. Our raspberries are prolific, bearing fruit beginning in July, and extending through October. The established plants send out subsoil runners, and we see volunteers coming up in the lawn, every year. In your situation, I would keep the new transplants watered, then wait & see what happens.

Duckweed is candy to goldfish and probably the same for koi. I'm thinking it could be salvinia, though. I think fish eat it but I understand it doesn't have much nutritional value. Won't hurt them though. I got some on some plants, too and it's slowly multiplying whereas the duckweed isn't. I like it though. Vanessa

Thanks for that link, I had read it before but because some may have had other successes, or failures... I reposted again. I never did receive a seed pod on my vine this year and I "know" it is not hardy in my zone, but one could hope. It would be so difficult to dig up a section of this beautiful vine, so I have not done that yet. I may attempt this on the weekend as temps seem above freezing. I did take multiple cutting at a node and placed them in water for starting. I also bought two new plants on Ebay that arrived promptly and in beautiful shape. One is actually about to bloom! I have learned my lesson and these two new plants will be kept in large planters and trellised in the warmer months so I don't worry about these beauties again. So fingers crossed that I root many new plants. In the mean time and with much wishful thinking and hope, I mulched hard the bases of my beautiful vines outside and will also lay fabric mulching cloth over top...then pray we have an easy winter hear in Princeton, NJ.
