Name That Plant!

What is my unknown plant 3 years of unknown.

I've had this plant for three summers now. I received it as a mistake from a mail order catalog and it had no tag. At first i thought it was a pepper plant because it's leaves were similar in shape. When the plant came back after a harsh winter outside i was in shock. It now had bark on the old base and it keeps surviving. It has never flowered so i'm really confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated. C sabol.

My guess is that your shrub is a lilac. It would probably do better planted in the ground.

So If my plant is a lilac how long do you think it will take until it flowers and how long can i safely keep it in a container. I don't have anywhere to plant it. I live in an apartment building so i may be able to upgrade it's pot.

I found a discussion on the balcony gardening forum about lilacs, so others have grown lilacs in a pot.
