Tx summer heat, ways to beat the heat?

Here in Tx the summer days can be long and hot, reaching 110 degrees during the day time and 100 at night. I dont think anything will grow in that heat. I have a small garden 100 sf. and a looking at ways to beat the heat. Should I try and shade the garden? I am growing 80% peppers and the rest are cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and 1 squash plant. I figure water in the evenings will also help cool the soil for the evening. Any other tips or ideas? During these times my plants pretty much stop doing anything because of the heat.
