Rough, scaly skin on radishes?

Hey everyone,

I have a question about a issue we're having with our radishes. A large number of them--not all of them, but probably 75% of them--have rough, scaly patches on the upper portion of each radish. The scales can be scrubbed away with something abrasive (like the back of a sponge), which improves their appearance, but the radish skin underneath is still somewhat marred. The scaly patches are actually raised off of the radish, so that scrubbing them off creates a fairly uniform, smooth texture over the entirety of the radish. This is happening with every variety we're growing: French Breakfast, Easter Egg, Cherry Belle, etc.

Any idea what could be causing this extra layer of scaly skin on the radishes? I've never had this issue before--does it have anything to do with trying to grow them in hot weather?

Thanks.
