4 Cycle Push Mower Care
Comments (16)2. Take out the air filter and clean the compartment and filter if it is reuseable. Use WD-40 to clean the air filter box. WD40 is not much of a cleaner, even worse lubricant. WD stands for Water Dispersing.. 5. The blade is easiest to sharpen by leaving it on the mower and using a rotary tool like a Dremel. Make sure you have the grinding bit and follow sharpening directions using this tool. Sharpen one end then hand turn the blade to sharpen the other. Working all bent under a mower with a little dremel in the shadows has to be the worst way to sharpen a blade. Take it off, grind out the nicks, use your favorite sharpener, balance it and reinstall it. 8. Change the spark plug once a year and clean around it using WD-40. Spray starting fluid in the spark plug hole before putting in the new plug. Why? if you want to put it away for the winter a squirt of motor oil or fogging spray is the correct way to do it. When you are done mowing, wait 20 minutes until the engine has cooled down and clean the mower using a leaf blower. Why? Its an AIR COOLED engine anyway..no reason to wait. Every so often you will want to clean under the guard of the propulsion system if you mower is self propelled. Use the directions in 10 and 12. Turn on the self propel to help dry after you are done. Better read up on Blade Brakes they dont like to get wet. Spray all cable ends, intricate visable metal parts, and where the wheels meet the axle with WD-40 every time you wash the mower, after it has dried. Spray the cable ends? How about the cable in the housing, thats where it needs it. Dont see any mention of using gas stabilizer for storage or at least running the tank dry....See MoreWeedeater push mower cord wont pull
Comments (10)It sounds like it is seized. Have you tried to start it or turn the blade since it has cooled down? If it's still seized, see if it is still under warranty and if the store or manufacturer will replace or repair. If not, and if you are mechanically inclined, it is sometimes (rarely) possible to break a seized engine lose with a block of wood and a hammer and you might get some further use out of it -or take it to a shop and get an estimate-otherwise time to park it on the curb and replace it....See MorePush mower idea
Comments (4)Everything would have to be re-designed including the flywheel weight to match any impellor. Companies don't get involved in re-inventing the wheel when there are appropriate machine out there....See MoreMcLane push reel mowers
Comments (4)The 17" is a completely different design. Among other things, the drive mechanism is a "mickey mouse" friction drive to the rear wheels, similar to that used in some cheap front wheel drive rotary mowers. Also, it uses a special engine with an extra 1/2 speed camshaft drive. Nothing inherently wrong with the engine, but if you have to replace the motor, your choices are considerably limited. The 20" and 25" are similar designs, both a lower cost knock off of the Trimmer. McLane uses belt drive to the mainshaft and a different reel and bedknife arrangement, but otherwise shares the roller propulsion drive and other features of the Trimmer....See MoreGreg Goyeneche
