Name That Plant!

A plant (weed??) ID, please

Does anybody know what this is? It's a small plant and looks kinda like my Anemone (Sylvestris). In fact I only noticed it when I planted the anemone.

The pic with flowers is not very good, but as I cleaned my yard of them (so far) I can't take a good picture, because they are too far now in the neighbor's yard. They just started to flower, whereas anemone is done several days ago.

The flowers are small, like half an inch maybe? Five petals, as I remember.

I looked in my encyclopedia at all anemones pictured and described there, but nothing looks like it. Of course it may be something else..

Anemone. A. sylvestris, perhaps.

I commented after looking at your photos - didn't even bother to read your description. My apologies. What makes you think it is not an anemone?

My definition of weed is a plant that you don't want in any garden. Obviously that would vary widely among different people...I think this fleabane would deserve a spot in a wildflower garden or similar.

Yep, Cleome, sometimes called "Spider Flower". The soil must be fabulous to get such good growth. I love those cottage garden annuals. It will reseed, and you will have lots more in a few months. The seedlings must be moved before they get 3" tall because they resent messing with the little hair roots. Enjoy!

The flowering plant looks like dayflower, Commelina communis. There are other species of dayflower--check Google and Google Images. It's hard to be sure without seeing the flower. It's an awful pest. My sad story is that I begged my Philadelphia SIL for a piece of this because I remembered a nicer version from my grandmother's garden. She warned me what a weed it was so I never planted it but it colonized part of my garden just from a paper bag on the deck. Hope I'm wrong about the ID of your plant.

Those look like the horse chestnut seedlings I have popping up all over. The squirrels collect the nuts in fall and stash them for future use, However, they forget where they stashed them and the nuts germinate very easily. I have been picking them out of almost every container planting I own!! Found a few in the middle of the lawn as well. Dig down carefully all the way to the base of the stem........you should find a big brown nut. If you get that up, there should be no resprouting.

They look like Anemone canadensis to me, particularly the leaves.

Carrieb, I thought it was some anemone, just not Sylvestris (leaves are different, flowers smaller, etc).
Lycopus, it was one of the fitting descriptions in the encyclopedia, what confused me was the description of the leaves & flowers: 5- to 7-palmate leaves, clusters of 1-3 flowers. Maybe I don't understant right, I thought they are 3-palmate, and looks like it's always only one flower. But what fits in the description is that it's spreading and invasive :)
